MISSION STATEMENT
With pride and passion, PHS will cultivate a safe, respectful learning
environment focused on student achievement.
Vision:
The administrators and faculty of PHS
believe that education is a right and a responsibility bestowed upon every
citizen of our nation. We also believe that all students have the capacity to
learn given the appropriate environment and support. Mindful of these ideals, we
make several commitments to our learning community.
1.
We will nurture relationships with our students, parents, community
members, and area businesses.
2. We
will establish behavioral expectations through a school-wide discipline plan.
Positive behavior will be rewarded, and negative behavior will be reprimanded
with consequences.
3.
We will improve student academic achievement by utilizing current,
research-proven teaching strategies, by varying instructions to meet the
different learning styles of each student, and by promoting a literacy-rich
environment.
4.
We will motivate students to develop work ethic, responsibility,
accountability, and self-discipline by modeling positive attitudes,
professionalism, and respect.
5.
We
will foster student pride by encouraging students to participate in
extra-curricular organizations, the arts, and competitive athletics.
6.
We
will provide a safe environment through communication and crisis prevention and
preparedness.

A
HISTORY OF PATTERSON
HIGH SCHOOL |

The first
classes, although no date was found, were held in an old one room building. The
building was of the simplest and crudest construction. Early citizens of Dutch
Prairie (now known as Patterson) built a two-story frame school in 1847. They
called it Pattersonville Academy. In
1899, there were five in the graduating class. It was
certified as an approved high school in 1900. |
| |

P.H.S.'s first brick structure cost
$28,350.00 In this building our school achieved many literary and scholastic
honors -- State Championship in Geometry in 1914, State
Championship in Track in 1922. The football team even defeated Southwest
Louisiana Institute. The first wing was built in 1953,
the second in 1958, and the third in 1963. It housed grades 1 - 12 until 1969
and grades 4 - 12 until 1976.

| |

In the fall of 1976, we moved into
our present building. We WERE PROUD THEN -- AND WE STILL ARE!
Today we have an enrollment of 450 plus students and we
are still achieving "EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION". |
