All itinerant teachers shall be assigned a homebase school.
In most cases, the first school visited each day is the homebase site.
In a case where the teacher does not visit the same schools on a daily
basis, the homebase school will be designated by supervisory personnel.
Itinerant teachers may be assigned duty in the school to which they
report for their first teaching assignment, usually the homebase school.
Any exceptions shall be agreed upon by the school administrators
involved. Generally,
itinerant personnel do not return to the homebase in the afternoon.
Therefore, after-school duty obligations are usually excused. One
returning to the homebase each afternoon may be assigned after-school duty.
Itinerant
personnel shall attend faculty meetings at the homebase school.
Faculty meeting attendance at non-homebased sites may not be mandated.
Itinerant personnel are expected to sign in for the first teaching
assignment at the same time as the regular faculty members are required to
arrive. Departure time from the
last school should be no earlier than the departure time for regular faculty at
that school. Exceptions to this policy will be made for staggered school
schedules to assure a full seven hour work day for itinerant teachers.
Itinerant personnel are entitled to a planning/prep period.
The time will be established during a time that is in the best interest
of the program and school district. It
may be necessary to take it in intervals to facilitate schedules and travel.
A reasonable amount of time for eating lunch shall be provided.
The employee and school administrators shall make reasonable compromises
when establishing planning/prep, lunch, and travel times.
The teacher is responsible for notifying all sites in the event of absenteeism. Homebase shall always be notified of partial absences.
