St. Mary Parish Public Schools

  • In an effort to further solidify school administrative leadership as the district prepares for the 2015-2016 school year, St. Mary interim superintendent Teresa Bagwell announced assistant principal appointments today.

  • A special session of the St. Mary Parish School Board is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

  • St. Mary Parish School Board has named assistant superintendent Dr. Teresa Bagwell to serve as interim superintendent. She will hold this position pending the selection of a new superintendent in mid-June.

  • Dr. Aguillard has announced summer school principal appointments:
    -Mr. J. Ina, Franklin Junior High
    -Mr. Lane Larive, Hattie Watts Elementary
    -Ms. Michelle South, Morgan City Junior High
    -Mr. Ronnie Louis, B. E. Boudreaux Middle School

  • Dr. Aguillard has announced principal appointments for the 2015-16 school year:
    -Mrs. Kristi Estay, Centerville School
    -Mrs. Shantell Toups, M.D. Shannon Elementary School
    -Mr. Donald Sanders, Raintree Elementary School
    -Mrs. Kiante Gunner, Lagrange Elementary School

  • St. Mary Parish is transitioning to online availability for board meeting agendas and support documents.  Permanent links to BoardDocs are posted under District | School Board or on home page tab (see below).

  • The St. Mary Parish School Board is accepting applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools.

  • Congratulations to Brandan Trahan, 8th grade teacher at Franklin Junior High School, for receiving the Louisiana Association of Educators 2015 Teacher Image Award.

  • Congratulations to Emily Rogers, a 7th grader at Hanson Memorial High School, whose artwork was selected as Grand Champion in the Red Ribbon Week Drawing Contest, and to all additional winners.

  • Congratulations to Abrielle Gilbert, a senior at West St. Mary High School, whose slogan will lead St. Mary Parish's 2015-2016 Red Ribbon campaign:“Shine your Light, Do What’s Right!  Be Drug-Free!”

  • St. Mary Parish Early Childhood Network announces the opening of pre-kindergarten registration for the 2015-16 school year beginning Monday, March 23.

  • Dr. Aguillard issues reminder that early voting for the March 28 election will be available from March 14 to 21. Ballot includes three school board maintenance tax renewals.

  • UPDATE: Notice of Cancellation--Weather concerns have forced the cancellation of  the Special Olympics Track and Field Meet for Spring 2015. The event will not be rescheduled due to conflicts with testing and holidays.

  • Congratulations to PHS's Ms. Rachael Credeur on being named a 2016 Principal of the Year Semi-Finalist. We wish her good luck as she advances to state-level competition.

  • Congratulations to St. Mary Parish Students of the Year:
    -Twelfth Grade: Diana Tran (MCHS)
    -Eighth Grade: Natalie Bourgeois (BJHS)
    -Fifth Grade: Alyssa Perkins (PJHS)

  • Special Olympics, previously scheduled for March 6, has been rescheduled for 10:00 AM on Friday, March 13, at Patterson High School

  • St. Mary Parish School Board issues the following proclamations:
    -Louisiana Literacy Week (February 8 - 14)
    -National African-American History Month (February)

  • St. Mary Parish School Board unanimously adopts resolution requesting BESE to amend state accountability guidelines for 2014-15 school year. 

  • Dr. Aguillard shares 2014 End-of-Year review, citing changes in academic approaches, budgetary considerations, and school facility maintenance as challenges to the district's focus on teaching and learning aligned to standards.

  • Dr. Aguillard issues a reminder to all community members about Act 581, which prohibits smoking within 200 feet of the entrances, exits, or outdoor areas of all schools.

  • All St. Mary Parish Schools will remain open on Thursday, January 8 and Friday, January 9 unless weather conditions deteriorate.The latest National Weather Service update calls for cold and windy conditions for south central Louisiana over the next 48 hour period.  Predicted lows for Thursday morning are in the low- to mid-20s for our region with no precipitation in the forecast for Thursday.  The Friday forecast calls for a slight chance of rain for south central Louisiana

  • FEMA Disaster Recovery Center and Emergency Food Stamp registration announced. See the St. Mary Parish School blog, which includes a language translator, for details and updates.

  • St. Mary Parish Academic Calendar changes due to Hurricane Isaac:
    Oct. 12 and Oct. 15--Fall Break reinstated
    Oct. 16--Inservice/Conference Day reinstated
    Jan. 7th--Faculty and students return to school from Winter Break
    Mar. 22--Instructional day; Teacher/Parent Conference cancelled
    May 29--Full day of school for faculty and students. Report cards distributed at the end of the school day.

  • Students attending J. S. Aucoin Elementary School in Amelia and the St. Mary Alternative Program in Verdunville will not report to school until Tuesday, Sept. 4, to allow additional time for repairs needed in the wake of Hurricane Isaac. Faculty and staff should report to these schools on Friday morning to pick up their checks.

  • Dr. Donald Aguillard announced plans by St. Mary Parish Schools to offer expanded options to families of homeschooled students through the addition of a virtual education program.All St. Mary Parish schools that have electrical power will be open for classes on Friday, August 31.

  • St. Mary Parish School Board has extended the cancellation of classes and activities through Thursday, August 30.

  • St. Mary Parish School Board has canceled classes and activities on Tuesday, August 28, and Wednesday, August 29, in anticipation of the effects of Tropical Storm Isaac.

  • District ACT scores drop with record number of testers.

  • Back to School:  Educational reforms await 2012-13 school year.

  • St. Mary Parish Transportation Department releases 2012-13 Bus Routes for east end and west end students.

  • Congratulations to Mrs. Niki Fryou, principal of Hattie Watts Elementary, who was named 2013 Louisiana Elementary Principal of the Year.

  • The first day of school for St. Mary Parish students is Wednesday, August 8.  Please check school websites and the School Calendar for more information about starting the 2012-13 school year.

  • Due to power outages in Morgan City, the following adjustments to St. Mary Parish summer school schedule have been made:
    --Morgan City Junior High summer school location has been moved to Berwick Junior High beginning Thursday, June 28, through Tuesday, July 3.
    --Morgan City area buses will continue to run regular routes, but students will be delivered to the BJHS location.
    --Parents can drive students to the BJHS location if needed.
    --These changes do not affect any other summer school sites.

  • St. Mary Parish high school students meet End-of-Course (EOC) Proficiency Standards. 

  • Dropout rate continues to decline as more students stay in school.

  • A public hearing has been scheduled on Thursday, July 12th, 2012, at 4:45 PM, prior to the regularly scheduled meeting of the St. Mary Parish School Board, to consider levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval or adopting the adjusted millage rates after reassessment and rolling forward to rates not to exceed the prior year’s maximum. A summary of the SMPB's current budget has been posted in accordance with state requirements.

  • SMP releases accountability test results--Student test scores continue upward motion.

  • 2012 End of Year Schedule announced:
    May 23 and May 24:  High school students dismissed at 12:30 PM following exams. Buses run at regularly scheduled times.
    May 25:  All schools dismissed at 12:30 or 1:00 PM. Check with your school for exact time. Teachers dismissed after students depart.
    May 29
    : Report cards are issued.

  • SMP releases results of the 2011-12 District Climate Survey for Elementary Schools, Middle/Junior High Schools, High Schools, and All District Schools (Summary).

  • SMP declares May 7-11 as School Nutrition Employees Appreciation Week.

  • Dr. Aguillard releases Exerting Every Effort Progress Report.

  • SMP announces upcoming registration for Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and first grade students at area schools.

  • Louisiana Dept. of Education highlights testing resources for educators (links can be found on Employees page), as well as students and families (links found on the Parents/Students page).

  • Paying for school meals can now be done online through School Payment Solutions, which allows adults to put money directly into a child’s school meals account. Create and access an account by browsing to the Parents/Students | Menus page.

  • Employees having problems logging into email accounts because their passwords have expired are reminded to use Password Manager (find it on the Employees page) to change or reset network passwords.

  • St. Mary Parish School System proclaims February as National African-American History Month and announces National School Counseling Week (Feb. 6-10).
